Nicanor Sen reaffirms the Government’s commitment to effective equality and encourages Castilians and Leoneses to join the feminist struggle
8M International Women's Day
March 8, 2024.- On the occasion of the commemoration of International Women's Day, the government delegate in Castilla y León, Nicanor Sen, has reaffirmed his commitment to effective equality between women and men while encouraging the whole of Castilian and Leonese society to join the feminist struggle.
Despite the challenges ahead, Sen said, Spain is fourth in the ‘European Gender Equality Index’, more than six points above the European average, a place that “would have been unthinkable to reach without the role of the feminist movement and the laws of this government that are marking the path towards achieving equality.”
Advances that must be consolidated and that must promote society along the long road that still remains to be traveled. For this reason, Sen understands the key to holding conferences such as the one on March 8, to contribute to social awareness and achieve a fairer and more inclusive society.
“March 8 is a date that commemorates the struggle of women for equality, justice, peace and development and is an ideal time to raise awareness about gender equality, publicize the social advances achieved and pending and highlight the struggle of women,” said Sen.
In parallel, Sen understands it as key that the public authorities implement decisive policies that promote real equality, as well as the fight against all forms of discrimination and violence against women. A need of which the current government of Spain is “fully aware”, which has made equality a “nuclear lever and preferential policy”.
COMMITMENT TO CASTILLA Y LEÓN
For the Government, Sen recalled, the promotion of equality between women and men obliges the implementation of specific measures in various areas, promoting the cross-cutting of the gender approach in public policies or to promote co-responsibility or eliminate gender labor and salary gaps.
To that end, the Government has launched the Joint Responsibility Plan, a new public action aimed at facilitating the reconciliation of families with children up to the age of 16. A plan that has resulted in an economic injection in the last three years of close to 45.5 million euros in Castilla y León.
To this is added the injection of 23 million received by the local entities of Castilla y León in the framework of funds of the State Pact of direct financing for actions to promote equality and combat all forms of violence against women.
Sen also recalled the work that has been carried out by the Government Delegation in Castilla y León, promoted by the Units of Violence against Women, with actions of equality, such as training and informative days and the creation of Violeta Points in the different institutions of the General Administration of the State. On the other hand, the distinctive ‘Equality in Business’, a mark of excellence that has been awarded by the Ministry of Equality to eleven companies in the Community that stand out for the development of their equality policies.
Without forgetting, Sen stressed, the measures promoted by the Government aimed at reducing the presence of wage gaps, such as the continued increase in the Minimum Interprofessional Wage and the Royal Decree of Equal Pay, which saw the light of day in 2020 in conjunction with the Royal Decree of Equality Plans in Companies.
“From the Government, from the Delegation and from each of the nine subdelegations we will continue to work hard and diligently through actions to accelerate the achievement of real and effective equality,” concluded Sen.
