December 29, 2023.- The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has awarded, through Adif, an investment of 60.9 million euros (VAT included) in the second phase of the construction works of the Valladolid Railway Complex, a project that, together with the Eastern Variant, will turn the city into a node of freight transport and center of railway technology and innovation.
The action includes the construction of the new freight transport terminal, which will be part of the network of strategic intermodal nodes, as well as a track technology center, the Redalsa center - a company of the Adif group specialized in lanes and detours - and a maintenance base. The work has been entrusted to the integrated UTE
by Lantania and Copcisa.
In this way, all the actions to materialize the Eastern Variant and the Railway Complex of Valladolid are under way; the infrastructures that remodel the railway network of the city, recover urban spaces - with the transfer to the new complex of endowments distributed in different points - and speed up the traffic of travelers and goods, in the latter case avoiding their passage through the station Alicante-Campo Grande
In addition, the project has been launched to expand the capacity of Alicante-Campo Grande, to turn it into a node of the high speed of the north, with the deployment of the second standard gauge road at the north exit of the station, thus responding to the growth of traffic associated with the extension of the network and the liberalization of passenger transport.
All these actions that Transportes has launched through Adif are part of the development of the Atlantic Corridor.
Railway Complex, Via and Redalsa Technology Center
In the Railway Complex, the new freight terminal of Valladolid will be built, which will host the activities of the facilities of La Esperanza and Argales. Its 230,000 m2 will house a technical installation composed of 9 tracks of more than 750 m for reception and issuance of trains; zone of loading, unloading and storage of containers; a management building; the parking of vehicles and an area of logistical expansion.
It will also host the Vía Technology Center, with 12,000 m2 for facilities and 24,000 m2 of storage area; and the Redalsa center (140,750 m2).
In addition, it will have an Adif maintenance base, of 2,700 m2 of surface, with workshops, warehouses and offices.
The second phase of this complex is promoted while Adif advances in the construction of its road beach, with an investment of 19.5 million euros. Likewise, work continues on the Eastern Variant, in which the signalling and telecommunications facilities are deployed and for which, recently, the track assembly and its electrification have been contracted.
The Variant East of Valladolid (17.5 km) is a conventional double and wide track line that will channel the circulation of all the freight trains of the Madrid-Hendaya line, bypassing its passage through the city and its station, and connecting with the new Railway Complex.
They also contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9 (promoting reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructure) 8 (economic growth and job creation) and 11 (inclusive and sustainable cities).

This action will have European funding through the “Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Funded by the European Union-NextGenerationEU”.
