The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has formalized for 1.28 million euros (VAT included) a contract of works for the humanization of the TO-22 road, between the avenue of Madrid and the roundabout of the Salto del Caballero, in the municipality of Toledo.
These actions will incorporate a pedestrian itinerary and a bike lane to this stretch of road, and include the landscaping of the environment. The official announcement of this award will soon be published in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
The humanization of this section implies its subsequent cession to the city of Toledo, which will become the new responsible for its conservation and maintenance as owner of the road, in accordance with Order TMA/1160/2021, of October 8, which establishes the framework for the conclusion of agreements for the delivery to the city councils of urban roads of the state network.
Characteristics of the performance
The area covered by the project is located between the roundabout of Madrid Avenue (located at the intersection with Paris Street) and the roundabout of Salto del Caballero, which is also included in the intervention. The traffic of both the road and the roundabout is totally urban, serving mainly for the connection between neighborhoods and sports areas.
Currently, the road does not have sidewalks or pedestrianisation elements, although they do exist in the streets around it (Avenida de Madrid and Calle de Paris). In the case of the Salto del Caballero gazebo, it has these elements in some sections, but it is necessary to adapt its interior space to the standards of an urban gazebo located in an area of access to a city such as Toledo, which is a World Heritage Site.
The actions contemplated in the project are as follows:
Execution of a pedestrian itinerary and a bike lane.
Landscaping of the islet of the roundabout of the Salto de Caballero and of the vial of connection between roundabouts.
Execution of drainage systems: collectors, sinks, downcomers, etc.
Milling and extension of bituminous mixtures.
Execution of sidewalks.
Execution of overhangs on the road of the connecting vial between roundabouts.
Replacement of affected services (gas and telephony).
Signage: painting of road markings and placing of vertical signs.
The action is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), within the voyage humanization program, which plans to invest up to 105 million euros (VAT not included) to promote a more sustainable, inclusive and accessible urban environment.
With this, it is intended to promote the configuration of cities oriented to return spaces for other forms of alternative mobility to the car and to guarantee the physical connectivity of people.
