The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility submits to public information and environmental assessment the route project to increase the capacity and safety conditions of the A-67 and S-10 motorways, in the stretch between Santander and Seve Ballesteros Santander Airport. With this action, which has an estimated budget of 86.6 million euros (VAT included), continuity is given to the three-lane extension of the A-67 between Polanco and Santander, whose works have just begun with an investment of 173 million euros.
Today, the project provisionally approved by the Ministry has been published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), so from tomorrow the interested parties will be able to submit the arguments they deem appropriate on this project. The file will then be forwarded to the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
The objective is to expand to three lanes and improve links on the A-67 and S-10 motorways in the south and southeast environment of the city of Santander, where the greatest traffic is concentrated in Cantabria with access to two large shopping centers, two industrial estates, the Port and Santander Airport.
Technical performance characteristics
The project consists mainly of seven actions, two of them the extensions to a third lane of the A-67 and S-10 motorways, and the other five the remodeling of the links of the A-67 with the S-30, Nueva Montaña (link A-67 with the N-603), link of the Raos polygon, the airport on the S-10 and the May Day on the A-67.
The action on the section of the A-67 begins at the link with the S-30, adding a braiding rail between the branch that accesses the A-67 in the eastern direction and the exit branch of the A-67 of the next link with the N 623. On the Torrelavega road, which has its origin in the New Mountain Link with the S-10, it is extended from 1 to 2 lanes in the stretch that borders the City of Transport.
Part of this extension has already been implemented in the project of Direct access to the Port of Santander from the A-67 Motorway. The actions designed in this project in this area will be compatible with those of the port access project. The third lane is formed with the incorporation branch from the shopping center and the S-10, and is maintained with 3 lanes until the link with the S-30, end of the stretch.
The link between the A-67 and the S-30 remains identical to the current one, except that the branch that from the south of the S-30 motorway joins the A-67 (direction Bilbao) does so with its own lane, which means the extension of the A-67 road.
On the S-10 motorway, the Santander direction road is extended to 4 lanes from a braiding lane on the stretch between the Raos Polygon link and the Nueva Montaña link. This section includes the S 10 viaduct on the Polygon road, the port’s railway line and the A-67 motorway. Before reaching the Nueva Montaña link, the remaining 3 lanes branch off into two 2-lane roads, one towards Santander and the other becoming the Torrelavega road of the A 67.
In the South direction, from the urban center, a collecting road of the S-10 is projected that connects directly to the Torrelavega direction road of the A-67, and that, in turn, collects traffic originating in the Bahia de Santander Shopping Center.
As for the links, the project contemplates a reconfiguration of the link geometry of Nueva Montaña with the execution of a roundabout superior to the S-10 from which traffic is distributed to the S-10 north and south, to the Bahia de Santander Shopping Center, to the City of Transport and to the Port of Santander.
Likewise, the May Day link is remodelled by changing its current configuration to a geometric typology of “diamond with weights”, taking advantage of the existing passage under the motorway and providing the additions to the trunk of the corresponding speed change lanes. This modification will significantly improve the capacity of the current link.
In the rest of the links mentioned, the existing configurations are maintained by improving the layout of its elements, expanding the number of lanes of any of its vials or extending the length of these.
