The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has opened three other sections of the N-621 conditioned road to traffic, as part of the works to improve the platform and environmental treatment of the road between Castro de Cillorigo and Panes, in the Hermida Gorge, between Cantabria and Asturias.
The three sections, which add up to 900 meters, join the stand in service in the month of July between the km 156,500 and 157,050, so that a total of 1.55 kilometers of improved road are already in operation.
The road on which it is acting, with an approximate length of 17.2 km, runs through Cantabria and Asturias and the section already reformed opened in these first days of September is located in the following three sections:
In Cantabria, in the area of Lebeña, first stretch between the km 157,050 and 157,600.
In Cantabria, in the area of La Hermida, second stretch, between the kilometers 164,185 and 164,415.
In Asturias, in the area of Estragueña, third stretch between the km 169,750 and 169,870.
The solutions implemented in the open sections involve widening the platform towards the river, to avoid dismounts that may affect the stability of the slopes. These performances are of three types:
· In the most favorable cases, in which there is sufficient width towards the river, the land has been laid out and healed to place the layer of firmes.
· Where that is not possible, the wall, concrete or fence solution has been adopted, depending on the characteristics of the existing slope.
· Where the necessary width cannot be achieved with walls, cantilevers have been executed, consisting of a concrete slab anchored to two concrete beams that are cemented on micropiles.
Once the extension has been carried out until the platform width of eight meters has been achieved, the firm section has been executed.
Craft work
The objective of the works, which have a work budget of 73.4 million euros (VAT included), is to achieve safe, responsible and environmentally friendly driving, without increasing the speed of circulation.
To this end, work is being done on rectifying the layout of several curves, expanding the platform to be at least eight meters wide, with two lanes of three meters and two sides of one meter each, and making other improvements of road elements such as drainage, signage, beaconing and containment systems.
Thus, in addition to improving safety and achieving a readable and consistent layout design, the actions are aimed at facilitating the use of the road by cyclists and pedestrians, adapting existing viewpoints and stopping areas and conditioning parking areas.
The road runs between the slopes of the Picos de Europa and the riverbed of the Deva River, which it crosses on 4 occasions, with two bridges of a single span. Therefore, the project is developed in a natural environment with several protected areas.
Given the special characteristics of the natural environment in which this project is carried out, the best possible solution has been studied at each point of the road, compatible with the strict boundary conditions: landscape, physical and natural environment, to achieve safe, responsible and environmentally friendly driving by the driver.
To implement the improvements, the best possible solution for its conditioning has been analyzed at each point of the road, compatible with the strict boundary conditions (landscape, physical and natural environment).
The result is a work of craftsmanship in which different types of solutions are alternated to achieve the width of the platform and the fit of a path that allows to circulate safely and comfortably in a singular environment.
The different solutions consist of sidewall walls, concrete walls, cantilevers of varying widths and insulated support structures.
