Adif will allocate about 12 million euros to the modernization of the signalling system of the Cabezón de la Sal-Torrelavega section, on the Santander-Oviedo metric width line.
The project, framed in the Cantabrian Commuter Plan, covers the signalling, energy and communications facilities of the Cabezón de la Sal-Torrelavega section (20 km), not including the station.
The objective of this action is to modernize the locking system and automatic communications of this line and adapt it to the new architecture design, as well as renew the interlocks of some stations in order to improve their functionality and the reliability of the facilities.
The contract for the normalization and modernization of locks and new interlocks of this section has been awarded to the Temporary Union of Companies (UTE) composed of Siemens Rail Automotion and Telephones and Central Lines, with an execution time of 15 months.
The main actions that will be carried out are:
- Replacement of the current electrical and mechanical interlocks of some stations with new state-of-the-art electronic interlocks and integration of the new functionalities in the CTC (Centralized Traffic Control Center) of Santander.
- Installation of new LED type signals in all locations with their respective digital Asfa beacons and installation of new train detection equipment.
- Adaptation of the energy system to the new architecture and modernization of the fiber optic layout.
- Construction of the new technical buildings to house the rooms of the security facilities and circulation cabinets.
The Proximity Plan of Cantabria contemplates more than a hundred actions for the renovation and modernization of the infrastructure, the duplication of track in some sections (among them Astillero-Orejo and Nueva Mountain-Maliaño) and the suppression of level crossings.
These actions contribute to the achievement of different Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 3 (Health and Welfare), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
