The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, has met with the Head of Mission in Spain of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), María Jesús Herrera.
At the meeting, Herrera gave the minister a report that basically includes two aspects of the phenomenon. On the one hand, the trends on migratory flows. “The Atlantic route increases, in terms of the arrival of boats and cayucos to the coasts of Europe, especially to the Canary Islands, facing the Strait,” said the minister.
On the other hand, the report deals with missing persons at sea. “Just today we saw the arrival of a boat with twenty deaths in Brazil, when they were trying to reach the Canary Islands. IOM figures a 20% increase in disappearances over the previous year,” Torres added.
