The Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Service, Miquel Iceta, today stressed to the university students that in the General State Administration (AGE) “public employment is an opportunity, we need you and I hope to convince you that it is worth it”.
The Public Administration, through the Talent Acquisition Plan launched by the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Public Function, seeks all those people with a vocation for public service and to contribute to building a more just, egalitarian and equitable society.
Miquel Iceta, who opened the Day of the Talent Acquisition Plan at the Carlos III University of Madrid, together with the rector, Juan Romo, explained that the AGE needs young people “to reinforce the public, increase our capacities and rejuvenate our Administration”.
In this sense, the minister has offered data to explain the need to rejuvenate the public administration: in ten years, 51% of the public employees of the AGE will have retired. Likewise, only 12% of the staff today are under 40 years old.
Within the framework of the Ministry’s Talent Acquisition Plan, the conferences have been held since 2019 in universities, professional colleges and educational centers. Its objective is to improve the image of the General Administration of the State as an employer. In the same way, they value the contribution of employees to society, raising awareness about the value of public services and their contribution to citizenship.
The Ministry of Territorial Policy and Public Function today adds to its Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube channels another new channel, Twitch, with an implantation in the youth world, through which the event held today at Carlos III University has been retransmitted.
Count on the talent in the Administration
The minister stressed that we must continue to have the best talent at the service of the citizens, with all those people with a vocation for public service, and explained to the university students that the public administration needs them to face the great challenges ahead.
Iceta has indicated that the “come back tomorrow” many years ago we left it behind. Today, we have a modern Administration, “and we need people prepared, with vocation, young people, and we have come to convince you, to see that the Administration can interest you. If Spain wants to respond more effectively to citizens’ demands, it needs an increasingly better administration, with people who believe in the public.”
“How do we want to be dynamic if we do not ensure that young people are part of the administration and not only participate but are directly involved and contribute to the design, elaboration and implementation of public policies?”, the minister asked to reiterate that the AGE needs to incorporate young people and good professionals to face the challenges ahead.
A necessity, right now, the minister insisted, “we need essential profiles, we are a great civil army formed by all people who want to dedicate themselves to public service.”
Addressing the university students, who have intervened in a face-to-face and telematic way, he explained the need to transform this challenge into an opportunity, for generational relief and maintain quality public services.
Finally, the minister has given examples of professionals that are needed today in the AGE: pharmacists, researchers, astronomers, meteorologists, veterinarians, jurists, programmers, computer scientists, mathematicians, engineers, forensic doctors, archivists, translators and interpreters, journalists, sociologists or political scientists.
Finally, the minister has referred to the interim and, although the AGE is already below 8%, the percentage is much higher in sectors mainly autonomous of education, health or justice, and we are proposing to all public administrations a reform of the Basic Statute of the Public Employee so that, from now on, no interim can continue in their situation more than three years and, in addition, they will continue to offer stabilization processes.
