- The delegate of the Government values that the protocol of the Ertzaintza is adapted to that of the other Autonomous Communities
The delegate of the Government in the Basque Country, Marisol Garmendia, expresses her satisfaction for the assumption by the Ertzaintza of the protocol of protection for victims of abuse that is applied in the rest of Spain. “The approval of the level of protection is very good news for women victims of abuse,” says Garmendia.
With the change of criteria, the degree of security with which female victims arrive in the Basque Country from other communities will be maintained. “We must make every effort to avoid a repetition of what happened a year ago with the murder of Maialen,” recalls the government delegate. Then, the level of extreme protection, with which it came from Valencia, was lowered to basic.
“Regardless of the competencies of each administration, the good that is above all is the protection of those women who are victims of abuse. The powers of the various bodies involved (police, judicial, administrative, etc.) must be put at the service of ensuring the safety of women. They cannot hinder that common goal,” he says.
