A total of 1,708,980 Basque citizens will be able to vote in the local elections of the next 28M. There are 8,400 fewer people than four years ago. The municipal elections will be open to 6,534 foreigners from the European Union and from countries with which Spain has signed a reciprocity agreement to exercise the right to vote and which have expressed their intention to vote in these elections. In this case, the electors are also less than four years ago, namely 202 less. In the case of the foral elections, “foreign citizens will not be able to vote”, said the government delegate in the Basque Country, Denis Itxaso, during the presentation today to the media of the electoral device designed for 28M.
“Citizens approaching the 5,388 qualified ballot boxes”, said Itxaso, “will be able to deposit their vote in 2,694 tables distributed in 718 polling stations:101 in Álava, 340 in Bizkaia and 277 in Gipuzkoa”. On the other hand, 8,082 citizens are cited in the first instance as full board members (presidents and first and second members). And another 10,528 are cited as substitutes. The electoral spaces will be mounted throughout this week
Before the end of the day, the result of the elections will be known thanks to the system used for the collection and subsequent dissemination of information at the polling stations through the 2,131 representatives that the general administration has arranged for the Basque Country. For the capture and dissemination of data “it highlights the distribution of around 900 tablets for the transmission of information, which will cover practically the entire electoral census”, said Itxaso. Data transmission using tablets will take place at almost all polling stations, except at 22 (all in Gipuzkoa), which will be done by telephone due to logistical and coverage problems. In addition to the collection of data, “the representatives of the Administration will ensure that there is no lack of material in the polling stations,” the delegate said.
On the other hand, 62,142 people have requested the vote by mail: 58,409 of them presented in person in the network of post offices (8,025 in Álava; 17,879 in Gipuzkoa and 32,505 in Bizkaia) and 3,733 telematically (696 in Álava; 1,035 in Gipuzkoa and 2,022 in Bizkaia).
The next elections of 28M will have a device made up of 1,544 agents, “who will work to guarantee citizen security and the exercise of rights and freedoms during the voting day,” Itxaso stressed. These police officers are distributed as follows: 1,217 ertzainas (the Basque Government is responsible for citizen security), 184 national police, 108 civil guards and 36 municipal police.
Receiving results

It is a data repository, based on a web infrastructure, which can be accessed by authorized users, allowing a connection through communication.
The files in this repository are updated at the same time as the provisional results data are sent, so that the information displayed by any broadcast channel is consistent with that stored in this repository, guaranteeing the integrity of the information.
