The Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, José Antonio Santano, has proposed to the Mayor of Tudela, Alejandro Toquero, a complementary informative study that includes the construction of a new intermodal station for the city of Tudela that is located in the same location as the current railway station.
Santano conveyed this to the mayor of Tudela with whom he held a meeting today at the headquarters of the Ministry and in which the Secretary of State showed him the maximum collaboration and asked the City Council to be able to maintain a constant dialogue to obtain the greatest consensus and the best solution for the inhabitants of Tudela and the Navarre Bank.
During the meeting, in which he presented the new alternative, Santano stressed that the aforementioned integrated station in Tudela will be transformed into a new high-speed and medium-distance station, a reference in sustainable mobility, with the expansion of both the tracks and the new station building.
In addition, he has reported that the work will have an investment of at least 30 million euros and will favor the city in its human dimension which will contribute to a 20-minute city model ensuring permeability on both sides of the tracks with gender architecture.
Santano has assured that with this new project it will be possible to build an underground parking in the station square, which will also serve the city.
Among the advantages, which the Secretary of State explained at the meeting, are the centrality that allows all trains, both regional and high-speed, to stop at the same station, as well as combined services by transhipment to serve the smaller towns of Zaragoza, Navarra and La Rioja, located on the conventional line.
In addition, he said that since the railway station is next to the bus station, coordination with public road transport services is enabled, as well as the extension of the benefits of high speed to towns that do not have a railway.
As he has reported, the centrality of the high-speed station will make the city of Tudela a success case of interconnectivity between the various means of public and private transport available, it will reduce door-to-door travel times as well as the citizens will have a station already integrated in the city.
Santano has assured that the new station is the best solution for Tudela that, together with the parking and the intermodal connection it offers, will make it a key work for the future of sustainable mobility in the municipality and will open economic opportunities for both the city and the region.
A future for Tudela
This complementary informative study contemplates the construction of a variant outside the urban center of Tudela so that those services that do not stop in the city can do it without crossing the town of Tudela by railway operation and speed of the railway line.
This will mean a reduction of at least 25% in the service of goods with the advantages that the city entails in the reduction of noise.
In addition, it will have a branch in Baipás that includes the passage through the city and the arrival at a new station.
The informative study will analyze the mobility of citizens to configure the future station that will also have an extension of roads for the implementation of High Speed.
The new intermodal station will have among other advantages greater connectivity with the different means of transport with the consequent saving of time for the citizens of Tudela and the Ribera Navarra and the centrality that improves the sustainable mobility of the municipality.
This complementary study will not cause any delay to the current Zaragoza–Castejón informative study.
Parallel to the aforementioned study, work is going to be done on the preliminary project of the new station for which Santano has transmitted to the City Council to create a technical working group to advance jointly in the definition of the urban integration and the architecture of the station in order to find the best solution agreed by all parties.
