The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has litigated for 4.16 million euros (VAT included), the service contract for the drafting of the road safety and public transport improvement project for the A-5 motorway between km 9 and 14,200 and the improvement of the functionality of the link between the A-5, M-40 and the A-5R motorway. The project is located in the municipalities of Madrid and Alcorcón, in the province of Madrid.
This project will solve the problems of the Southwest motorway corridor from its connection with the M-40 bypass motorway (the link with the A-5 and the link through the A-5R branch) to the Alcorcón Centro link. The budget for the works is estimated at 132 million euros (VAT included).
Functional improvements will be projected on the A-5 and the A-5R: connectivity and traffic organization will be improved on the links between the A-5 and the M-40, the San José de Valderas link and the Alcorcón Centro link through new branches and the modification of the configuration of the existing ones. Accessibility to the neighborhood of La Fortuna will also be improved.
The link of San José de Valderas will include the modification of the access branch to the roundabout of Avenida América de Alcorcón, adjusting the projected layout to the section of road annulled, so that new expropriations can be avoided as much as possible
Also, in the project:
- The improvement of the pedestrian permeability between both margins of the A-5 will be studied, in the environment of the Alcorcón center link.
- The need and feasibility will be analyzed and, the necessary actions will be promoted to provide the A-5 with reserved or preferential use lanes for collective public transport and for high-occupancy vehicles (Bus-VAO) or zero emissions, depending on the budgetary availability.
The viability of the contemplated actions has its origin in the preliminary project for the adaptation, reform and conservation of the A-5 Motorway in the Southwest, between kilometres 10 and 74, already approved.
Union between Madrid and Lisbon
The motorway of the Southeast A-5 is a fundamental road in the State Road Network, since it serves as a link between Madrid and Lisbon, being a basic section of the Trans-European Transport Network (E-90). On the other hand, the stretch within the province of Madrid is also a fundamental infrastructure, which serves the daily mobility of thousands of citizens.
