The government delegate to the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, defended on Saturday the need to modify article 49 of the Constitution “to be fully fair and respectful with people with disabilities.” “I am convinced that the reform of Article 49 will be possible, and it is justice for all people with disabilities,” he reiterated.
The government delegate spoke these words during his participation in the meeting/lunch with members and workers of the ONCE, on the occasion of the festivity of his patron, Saint Lucia, organized by the Territorial Delegation of the ONCE in the Community of Madrid.
He also pointed out that article 26 of the Statute of Autonomy of the Community of Madrid “that goes in the same direction”, also requires this urgent adaptation because “disability is one more characteristic of the person, and not its nucleus. You have to put the person first and, secondly, the disability.”
Francisco Martín has conveyed to the attendees the gratitude and recognition of the Government of Spain for the constant and relentless daily work of ONCE and also conveyed to them that the Government of Spain will continue to be at their side to continue moving forward.
