- If we only count conventional crime, excluding cybercrime, crimes have dropped by 6.4%, a total of 32 less per month
- Some of the criminal acts that generate the most social alarm have also fallen, such as vehicle theft (34.5%), drug trafficking (15%) or robberies with violence and intimidation (7.7%)
The crime rate in Parla as of December 2022 is 11.6 points below the Community of Madrid average (59.7). “Therefore, those who insist on propagating that it is one of the most dangerous and unsafe cities to live in lie. On the contrary, Parla is a safe city.” This was highlighted by the delegate of the Government to the Community of Madrid, Mercedes González, during the Local Security Board held on Thursday, which presided together with the mayor, Ramón Jury.
“The total number of crimes rose slightly in 2022 compared to 2019, 1.9%, a figure that if we move to the crime rate does not even reach 1 point (0.7)”, said Mercedes González during her speech at the regular session, who added that “if we only count conventional crime, excluding cybercrime, since crimes online have skyrocketed, crime in Parla last year fell by 6.4% compared to 2019, a total of 384 crimes less or 32 crimes less per month”.
Crime goes down and police effectiveness goes up
Some of the crimes that generate the most social alarm have also fallen, such as vehicle theft, “a very frequent and worrying crime in Parla”, fell by 34.5% (48 car thefts less than in 2019, 4 less a month). Drug trafficking (15% less) or robberies with violence and intimidation (7.7% less) have also dropped significantly.
The delegate of the Government has also explained that in 2022 police effectiveness has increased: the rate of resolution of serious crimes was last year of 52%, 7.63 points more than in 2019. In minor crimes it is 23%, seven points more than in 2019.
Violent youth bands
As for the Action Plan against Youth Gangs, which was launched in Parla in February 2022, after more than a year of implementation, it provides some very important data. From February 2022 to February 2023: 5,507 people identified (more than 15 each day), 34 detainees, 33 weapons interviewed and 218 drug records.
In addition to controlling gang members, the Government Delegation and the National Police are working on prevention in schools. For this reason, last year the talks in Parla on youth gangs of the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their Environments intensified. Throughout 2022, 84 talks were given to students, teachers and ampas of the city.
