The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has approved the construction project of the El Villar de Arnedo variant on the N-232 road, in La Rioja, with a total length of about 7.2 km and an estimated budget of 62.7 million euros (VAT included). The objective is to improve road safety and reduce traffic congestion on the crossing as it passes through this urban center. The announcement will soon be published in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
This action will provide users of the N-232 with a notable increase in comfort and safety, by preventing traffic through the urban center of this population and its existing intersections.
In addition, the residents of El Villar de Arnedo will enjoy a better quality of life, since the inconveniences and dangers generated by the daily traffic of vehicles will be eliminated.
Performance characteristics
The N-232 connects Vinaroz with Santander, passing through the town of El Villar de Arnedo by crossing and having many direct access to the road corresponding to urban homes, shops and industrial buildings. It is a stretch with a high average vehicle intensity (more than 9,000 vehicles per day, with 40% of heavy vehicles), so the variant of El Villar de Arnedo has been proposed with a motorway section.
The projected variant is located to the south of this town, starting in the eastern area of the municipality, at km 367.4 of the N-232, where it begins its route in the straight alignment located in front of the ship of the logistic transport group “Grupo Arnedo”. The initial connection, which transitions between the current conventional road section and the motorway section, begins at the current link of Pradejón with the autonomous road LR-280. At km 1,700 of the performance, the connection with the future variant of Pradejón is foreseen, resolved by a weight type link supported on the current national road.
The route continues to advance through the sites of Las Caradas, El Hoyo de la Monja and La Ibesa, before crossing the LR-123 road that connects the N-113 in Valverde (locality located in La Rioja, next to the provincial limit with Zaragoza) with the provincial limit of Navarra to the north of El Villar de Arnedo. The crossing with this road is planned by means of a trench under the same and the design of a link at different level through a single elevated roundabout that facilitates the transit of the traffic of the autonomous road.
Later, when crossing with the LR-123 road, the corridor continues through the place of Las Pozas, crosses the river of La Barranca, crosses the Hoyo del Quemado and connects again with the N-232 at km 374, in the final stretch of the Variant of Ausejo.
Along its route it will have two crossings, with the LR-123 road and with the future Variant of Pradejón, which will be resolved with links at different levels.
