Adif today begins work on the improvement and renewal of materials in 2.5 km of the Casetas-Bilbao/Abando railway line, as it passes through the Rioja municipality of Rincón de Soto. These actions, with an investment of 2.8 million euros, reinforce the repair work carried out after last summer’s floods in the area and will contribute to reinforce the reliability of the infrastructure and eliminate the speed limitation to the passage through this area.
The nature of the proceedings makes them incompatible with circulation and the line will be interrupted on the Alfaro–Calsalvo route between 12:30 h on 22 April and 06:30 h on 26 April and from 12:30 h on 29 April until 04:30 h on 3 May.
In order to guarantee the mobility of passengers, Renfe has designed an Alternative Transport Plan (PAT) for the services of Media Distancia trains between Logroño and Zaragoza and those of Larga Distancia (Alvia) Madrid-Logroño and Madrid-Barcelona.
In the case of Media Distancia trains, travelers will travel by bus between Alfaro and Calsalvo and the rest of the route will be done by train. For Alvia services, in both long-distance relationships, the journey between Logroño and Tudela will be made by bus and the rest of the route, by train.
The schedules will be slightly modified on the occasion of these works and can be consulted in www.renfe.es
Level steps, track devices and communications system
The actions include the replacement of materials on the route prior to arrival at the station and on the sideways, as well as the recovery of the stone base (ballast). To do this, it will be necessary to disassemble the two level crossings and the level crossing between platforms of tracks 1 and 3, which will be returned after completing the performance.
Also, track devices (devices that allow the crossing of different tracks) and communications and security systems will be replaced. In addition, works will be carried out to protect the road from future run-offs, as well as drainage and channeling; and, in the surroundings of the station, a heavy metal fence and concrete barrier will be installed on both sides of the line.
This work contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, which has among its goals the development of reliable, sustainable, resilient and quality infrastructures.
