The Government will promote 11 pioneering renewable energy production and storage projects in Galicia with an investment of 6,129,234 euros from the Recovery Plan. These projects are included in the first call of the RENOINN program (Innovative Renewable Energy Program), which comes from definitively solving the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO).
In Galicia this program will promote production projects with hydroelectric and photovoltaic energy storage and xeothermal and environmental energy production initiatives (aerothermal/hydrothermal) in the provinces of A Coruña and Pontevedra. The projects total 7.5 MW of generation and 4.2 MWh of storage capacity. The total investment mobilized will amount to 9,354,711 euros, with public and also private initiatives.
The Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE), a body attached to MITECO, was in charge of managing the call and selected the projects by the competitive competition system. He highlighted the innovative nature and added value of integrating renewable energies in the territory and in different productive sectors, while promoting collective self-consumption and the deployment of the heat pump to decarbonize the air conditioning.
Of the five lines of differentiated incentives in the RENOINN program, Galicia is present in three of them and among the beneficiaries are public administrations, companies, communities of owners and owners and foundations.
Vulnerable consumers
More than half of the projects that will be promoted in Galicia are part of the vulnerable consumers line, which promotes initiatives with a social component through collective self-consumption formulas with storage. In particular, there are five projects promoted by the County Council of Pontevedra (which reaches € 2.4M) that will benefit the population of 38 municipalities in the province, and a project promoted by the Xunta de Galicia in the City Council of Bueu (with an aid of € 0.4M). All these projects are photovoltaic generation and associated storage. Together, they will generate 4.1 MW with an associated storage of 3.6 MWh.
By number of projects, the second line with more aid granted in Galicia is dedicated to innovative projects of renewable heat pump facilities that aims to advance in the electrification of thermal processes. Among the beneficiaries are three communities of owners and owners of the cities of Santiago, A Coruña and Vigo, as well as an installation of a Nautical Sports Foundation of the City of Pontevedra. In the latter case, the installation of ambient energy (aerothermia/hydrothermia) is financed and the rest are of xeothermia. The projects will jointly generate 2.1 MW.
Finally, Galicia is present in the line dedicated to the integration of renewable energies in infrastructures. In this case, the IDAE selected a proposal in Covelo (Pontevedra), of hydroelectric technology, which reaches 1.06M€ of subsidy. The generation power of the beneficiary facility is 1.42 MW and the associated storage capacity is 0.6 MWh.
All actions subject to subsidy in the RENOINN program must respect the principle of “not causing significant harm” to the environment that links the NextGenEU funds channeled by the PRTR. The proceedings must be carried out before the end of March 2026.
