The subdelegate of the Government of Spain in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided this morning the Local Security Board in the City of Betanzos, together with the mayor María Barral, to analyze the latest data and the actions carried out between the Civil Guard and the Local Police of the City Council to guarantee the safety of the neighborhood. Rivas highlighted “the joint work of the Civil Guard and the Local Police to ensure the safety of the neighborhood of this town hall.” According to the data provided, the crime rate in Betanzos is well below the national average.
María Rivas highlighted, in the field of prevention, the relevance of the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their Environments, promoted by the Ministry of the Interior. Through this program, the Civil Guard carried out 44 activities in four educational centers in Betanzos, with 1,055 participants from the educational community. The activities focused on cybersecurity and ICT issues, school bullying and cyberbullying, gender violence issues, drug and alcohol issues or the protection of personal data and other addictions in gambling or video games. “The Master Plan addresses the current concerns of families and teachers, incorporating relevant topics and connected with the reality of students,” said Rivas.
The Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their Environments is a program of the Ministry of Interior of the Government of Spain that aims to coordinate between the educational community and the Security Forces and Bodies to prevent and detect situations of risk among new people, as well as sensitize students and contribute to their training in respect for fundamental rights and the values of equality and human dignity.
The data of participation and the activities carried out in the educational centers of the province of A Coruña in the last year corroborate the good acceptance of this Plan in the educational centers of the province of A Coruña in which 40% of the activities carried out throughout Galicia in the year 2024 were carried out, with 2,016 of a total of 5,027. These proposals were attended by 35,744 people from the educational community (students, teachers and families) of a total of 144,761 participants in Galicia. The participating centers in the province of A Coruña were 331, of the 953 that did so at the autonomous level.
Local parties, coordination and security
In addition, in this meeting progress was made in the coordination of the protocol of actions before the festivities and celebrations in the open air, especially the medieval fair and the patron saint’s parties in August. The subdelegate of the Government pledged to strengthen the security means to ensure the correct development of the Medieval Fair Franca, which will take place from July 11 to 13, as well as the Festivities of San Roque and Os Caneiros.
“The operation designed is designed to ensure the correct development of all celebrations, with special attention to the moments and spaces with the greatest influx of people,” said the subdelegate.
The device will be coordinated between the City Council, the security forces and bodies, the Local Police, the emergency services and civil protection.
VioGen system
The Xunta Local de Seguridad also analyzed the data of the Integral System in cases of gender violence, VioGén. María Rivas stressed the importance of institutional collaboration to ensure the safety of victims and their families. The City of Betanzos has two instruments that promote the Subdelegation of the Government; first, it is attached to the VioGén protection system and, on the other hand, it is also integrated into the Interinstitutional Coordination Table against gender violence.
The VioGén System, under the Ministry of the Interior, is a system of protection for victims of gender-based violence in which the State security forces and bodies collaborate with the local police of municipalities. Of the 60 municipalities in the province that have local police, 29 of them are members of the VioGén System, which demonstrates the commitment to the fight against male violence.
