The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, participated this morning in the opening ceremony of the Conference on the present and future of energy communities, held in the Concello de Ames, where she highlighted the strategic role that these initiatives have for the transformation of the energy model in the country.
“The promotion of energy communities is a clear priority for the Spanish Government. Proof of this is the investment of 100 million euros that the Ministry for the Ecological Transition has destined to promote this type of projects that put citizens at the center of the energy transition,” he said.
During his speech, he gave as an example the work done by the City of Ames, which created its Community Transformation Office, a space of support and advice for local agents who want to create energy communities. This office has a grant of 80,000 euros from the Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE), within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
In addition, he highlighted the collaboration agreement between the IDAE, the City of Ames and the County Council of A Coruña for the development of the activities of this office, with a total investment of 145,200 euros, of which 80,000 euros come from the IDAE, 40,000 from the City Council and 25,200 from the County Council.
“Energy communities not only bring clean energy and proximity, but also contribute to the savings of families, SMEs and administrations, generating economic, social and environmental benefits for the whole neighborhood,” he said.
The day was attended by university professors and first-level experts, who discussed topics such as renewables, energy efficiency or sustainable mobility within the framework of energy communities. The government representative concluded her speech by wishing the attendees “an intense, participatory and, above all, useful day to continue moving rigorously towards a fairer and closer transition to the people”.
