The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, praised today in O Barco de Valdeorras (Ourense) the strength of the Galician wine sector and its ability to adapt to the new market and production conditions. At the opening ceremony of the 26th edition of the Valdeorras Wine Fair, he reiterated the support of the Government of Spain for producers and companies to take advantage of all the instruments at their disposal to face the challenges of the future, such as the rebalance between supply and demand, climate change, the new demands of consumers or the need to achieve greater sustainability in the environmental, social and economic spheres.
Pedro Blanco expressed his optimism in view of the prospects of the Galician wine sector, which is one of the main beneficiaries of the Wine Sector Intervention (ISV), the wine support programme within the framework of the new CAP.
In Galicia, this program was translated last year into more than 10 million euros that the Government transferred to the Autonomous Community for programs to support the sector. To these 10 million euros, the aid granted to three Galician wineries in the framework of the first call for tender of the PERTE Argoalimentària, which received 5.2 million euros to finance their participation in the Graperte program of digitalization of the sector, is added.
These amounts, together with the aid of the drought and war response plans in Ukraine or through the various tourism programs linked to the wine and agri-food sector, raise the investment of the Government of Spain in support of producers and wineries in recent times to 25 million euros.
Opening
In his speech, the delegate, who was accompanied by the subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, conveyed his congratulations and that of the Government to the men and women of the wine of Valdeorras for their strategy in favor of the modernization and digitalization of the sector without losing sight of the “indisputable quality” of their wines.
He also appointed the Denomination of Origin Regulatory Council for its work in favor of international dissemination and quality control of production.
