The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, held an intense and fruitful working meeting this morning with the mayor of Lugo, Miguel Fernández, in which he updated the commitments of the Government of Spain with the city, which exceed 66 million euros in direct investments and cover areas such as infrastructure, housing, mobility, public services, male violence and democratic memory.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Deputy Delegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, and the Councilor for Urbanism, Jorge Bustos, Pedro Blanco highlighted the institutional collaboration as key to consolidate the Lugo of the future, a city that “Lara Méndez undertook, promoted Paula Alvarellos and that is sure to consolidate the new mayor”.
In this regard, he conveyed a personal message from President Pedro Sánchez to the councillor and the Lucense neighborhood: “All the affection and commitment of this Government to consolidate the Lugo in which we are working hand in hand.”
In terms of infrastructure, projects under implementation and new investments in progress were analyzed, such as the new Intermodal Station (30.9 million), the Ourense–Monforte–Lugo railway modernization (650 million, of which a significant part has a direct impact on the city), the construction of 204 public housing units and the rehabilitation of another 57, the project of pedestrianisation of the historic center (Corazón Verde), or the new National Police Station.
In this line, the delegate said that the Ministry of the Interior already owns the plot ceded by the concello in which the new building of the police station will be built. Likewise, with regard to the roads, the delegate conveyed the commitment of the Ministry of Transport to “have completed the conservation work of the White Bridge before the end of the summer for its preparation prior to the cession to the Concello”.
In addition, he also reported that it will be carried out later this year in the light of the Nadela roundabout, and he promised to transfer to the Ministry at the request of the mayor to connect the northern round and the Las Gándaras polygon. According to Pedro Blanco, “the overall actions shared with other cities in the province that benefit all Lucenses add a total investment in infrastructure and services of more than 746 million euros”.
Visit to the pedestrianisation works and the Old Prison
During the day, the delegate also visited the works of the Green Heart project, which has a state investment of more than 4.4 million euros and will allow to transform the historic center into a low emissions area, prioritizing pedestrian use.
The institutional day ended with the official inauguration of the Musgo restaurant, located in the Old Prison building, where Blanco was accompanied by members of the local government. The mayor explained that he will request that the property be recognized as a Place of Democratic Memory, symbolizing the commitment to the memory and culture of the city.
