The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, thanked the Military Emergency Unit (UME) for the “essential work” it does in Galicia, protecting it against forest fires every summer and any emergency. Pedro Blanco held a working meeting in his office with the head of the Fifth Intervention and Emergency Battalion of the UME, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Constantino Casado.
Pedro Blanco discussed with Casado the preparation of the next summer campaign against forest fires in Galicia, which the UME is preparing these days in Mazaricos and Carnota. The works consist of the sharing of methods, techniques and tactics that are used in the extinguishment of forest fires. In addition, practices with the use of technical fire in forest land are carried out.
The UME carries out these practices in collaboration with the General Directorate of Defense of the Monte de la Xunta de Galicia, with whom it shares knowledge to ensure the defense of the Galician mountain in the coming months. In this respect, the delegate stressed the importance of collaboration between the different administrations to generate a safer and more protected Galicia, where prevention and defense against fires allow a quiet summer.
This meeting belongs to the group of activities of joint preparation with operations of the different communities that are in the area of preferential action of the Fifth Battalion. Pedro Blanco thanked all of them, as well as all the professionals who make up the UME, for their exemplary performance in the work derived from the damage in Valencia, highlighting their presence in all aspects, from rescue in moments of emergency to recovery and subsequent reconstruction efforts. “You are an example of solidarity, a solid and reliable pillar that all Spanish and Galician citizens can count on,” said the delegate.
