The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, expressed his commitment to intervene to speed up the planned improvement in the pavement of the N-640 road. In a working meeting held this morning in the Subdelegation of the Government in Pontevedra, in which also participated the subdelegate, Abel Losada, the mayor of Cuntis, Manuel Campos, and the head of the Demarcation of Roads of the State in Galicia, Ángel González del Río, Pedro Blanco collected the demands of the thermal municipality on this road.
The delegate noted that “one of our main concerns regarding infrastructure is the state of the roads,” while stressing that “we are especially aware of the needs of Cuntis.” In this regard, he said that there is already a firm service contract that is expected to begin to be executed this spring, affecting various sections of the N-640 in Cuntis and other municipalities of Deza and Tabeirós. This action will make it possible to mitigate the most serious and urgent damage to the pavements of this road.
At the same time, both the Government Delegation and the Subdelegation are making efforts to expedite a contract for the complete rehabilitation of the N-640 firm, which is currently being drafted by the Ministry of Transport. This contract aims at the integral improvement of the national road in the regions of Deza, Tabeirós Terra de Montes and Caldas.
In addition, it was agreed to accelerate the execution of the common maintenance contract, which has a budget of 8 million euros for the conservation of the N-640 in the northern area of the province. These measures seek to ensure that this high-traffic route regains the best possible conditions.
Finally, the meeting also addressed other infrastructures of state competence in Cuntis, such as the variant and the crossing, on which there will soon be news.
The government delegate recalled that during the mandate of Mariano Rajoy the budget for road maintenance was cut to historical lows, which has visible consequences on the current state of the infrastructure. The government of Pedro Sánchez is working to recover that lost budget, being aware of the complexity of the process.
