The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, and the mayor of Verín, Gerardo Seoane, co-chaired the Local Security Board in which the situation of citizen security in the municipality, cases of gender violence, the Master Plan for Coexistence in schools were analyzed and the security device was coordinated for the upcoming Carnival celebrations.
With regard to citizen security, the Civil Guard reviewed the data for the past year, which shows a stabilization in relation to previous periods and even a small decrease; highlighting the increase in the clarification of crimes by agents. In figures, the region recorded 289 serious or less serious crimes, of which 137 were clarified.
However, following the same trend as in the rest of the province, Verín is suffering an increase in cybercrimes, which is faced, together with the Ourense Command, by the Civil Guard unit in Verín, which solves crimes and cybercrimes on a small scale, and which is clarifying 30% of the cases assigned to this company.
In relation to gender violence, the Verín headquarters is detecting an increase in cases; “which does not indicate that there are more crimes of this type, but that the Civil Guard and society in general is helping to ensure that more visits are made so that the security forces can act. The positive fact is that more is reported and more cases are clarified,” said the deputy delegate.
For its part, the National Police stressed the increase in files that are being registered in its office in Verín, both for processing NIE, DNI, passport and asylum applications, in which eight agents are working.
In addition, this Local Board also reviewed the preventive actions framed in the application of the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and in their environments, which seeks to avoid violent behaviors and addictive habits among the youngest.
Finally, the City of Verín exposed the main lines of its security device for the celebrations in the municipality of Carnaval 2025 and the coordination between Civil Guard, Local Police and Civil Protection was established during these celebrations. Eladio Santos highlighted the “long experience” of the procedures that are applied, both in the previous days and during the big days of celebration.
In addition, valuing the good results of last year, in which there were very few interventions of the security and health care forces, the subdelegate said that "we trust that using the same methodology this year will also be calm, but festive at the same time, because the important thing is that people enjoy the Carnival of Verín", he concluded.
Along with the deputy delegate and the mayor, representatives of the Xunta de Galicia; Civil Guard, Local Police and Civil Protection of Verín; as well as the head of the Violence against Women Unit of the Government Subdelegation, Alida Iglesias, were also present at the meeting.
