Cambados, December 10, 2024.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, visited today the Parador de Cambados to supervise the start of the improvement and renovation actions that the Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, undertakes in the building. It is an investment close to 700,000 euros that will allow the integral replacement of the exterior carpentry of about 200 windows and the renovation of the furniture and upholstery of the cafeteria. At the same time, pavement conditioning works will be carried out in the outdoor parking lot, where four recharging points for electric cars will be installed.
Accompanied by the mayor of Cambados, Samuel Lago, and by the director of the Parador, Meritxell Marcos, the subdelegate framed these actions “in the determined commitment of the Government for tourism in the province of Pontevedra”. “These are very demanded and fundamental works, because they represent a substantial improvement in the conditions of a key accommodation in one of the most touristic municipalities of Galicia, which will allow to continue attracting tourism, employment and economic activity to Cambados and the province,” he explained.
Losada highlighted the Government’s commitment to move towards a sustainable tourism model of higher quality in an “unprecedented” effort through which, he recalled, only the improvement of the Paradores network in the province is allocated almost 10 million euros. Thus, to the 700,000 euros of investment in the accommodation of Cambados, the reform of the Parador de Pontevedra is added with 1.6 million, while the interventions in the monumental complex of the Parador de Baiona will exceed 7 million.
The mayor, for his part, valued this project very positively “since it will represent a very important improvement for the “flagship” of the accommodations of our town and, therefore, it will have a very positive impact on the attraction of tourism throughout the year”.
The director of the Parador stressed the importance of “maintaining and improving these historical infrastructures, which are a fundamental tourist and cultural resource for Galicia”. “With this intervention, the Government reinforces its mission to promote quality tourism and offer quality experiences to our visitors while preserving and enriching the heritage,” he said.
Occupation data
Between January and September 2024, the Parador de Cambados has maintained the upward trend of the company. In this period, an occupancy rate of around 72% has been reached, representing almost 4 more occupancy points compared to the same period of the year 2023. These figures are very positive, considering that they cover an extended period. During these months, the number of customers staying at the Parador de Cambados has been more than 10,000. On the other hand, more than 8,000 cutlery has been served and the staff exceeds 33 people full-time.
Located in the heart of the Rías Baixas, the Parador de Cambados occupies the historic Pazo de Bazán, an emblematic building that reflects traditional Galician architecture and is surrounded by gardens and an exceptional natural environment. This Parador offers a unique lodging experience and is closely linked to the culture, gastronomy and beauty of the region, attracting tourists interested in exploring the Galician heritage and landscapes.
