Mos, August 6, 2024.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, supervised this morning in Mos the paving actions that the Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Transport, develops in the La-55, in the Vigo-Porriño stretch. During the visit, which was accompanied by the provincial head of Roads, Pablo Domínguez, Losada stressed that these works highlight the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to the conservation and improvement of state-owned roads in the province of Pontevedra.
The intervention is undertaken within the framework of an emergency contract of 6 million euros which, in addition to the paving of the La-55, includes the conditioning of the La-52 (motorway to the Del, plateau) and the Vigo VG-20 bypass. However, the subdelegate reported that the Mos section was especially prioritized because of the poor conditions in which it was located. The asphalted in this municipality will end on August 10.
The remaining sections of the La-55 will then be executed in Vigo and O Porriño. It is estimated that in the municipality of Mos approximately 5,000 tons of new firm were extended, amounting to approximately 1 million euros, which would represent more than 40% of the total emergency declared for the A-55 and VG-20 (that is, except for the one foreseen for the A-52, which is the longest road). Losada recalled that the asphalted are being carried out at night so as not to harm the road traffic on a road with a lot of traffic and, even more, coinciding in a period in which there is a lot of holiday traffic accessing Vigo and the whole province, since this road is one of the main accesses to the entire provincial territory from the Plateau.
On the other hand, the subdelegate also announced that the Government, as he recently explained to the neighborhood associations of Mos, is working on a project for the placement of acoustic screens that minimize the problem of noise generated by traffic in this area. “Therefore,” he said, “the Government of Spain complies with the maintenance of national roads, which were very affected after the storms of the last two years.”
At the same time, he remarked that the damages that emerged after these storms are the product “of the absolute lack of maintenance” during the period of Mariano Rajoy’s government, when state investment in conservation fell to the historical minimum of 750 million per year, that is, less than half of what is currently being invested. “So, from those cuts these potholes,” he insisted.
The deputy delegate stressed that the current Executive’s will is to recover the annual regular investments in maintenance, proceeding to asphalted sections throughout the national road network to complete the recovery of the entire network and ensure its adequate conservation, both in the present and in the immediate future.
Finally, the deputy delegate, “given certain confusing information” stressed that “many of the roads adjacent to the A-55 motorway are municipal, so it is not possible to demand from the State Road Demarcation any action related to its conservation or improvement”. In fact, as recognized by the mayor, Clara Arévalo, in a recent visit to the Subdelegation of the Government, it is the City Council that signals the senses of circulation and executes pedestrian structures on these roads.
