The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, received today the foreign agents who will collaborate this month of July in the Xacobeo 2024 Security Plan that launches another year of the Civil Guard in the province, in order to expand security and protection coverage to pilgrims and pilgrims who carry out the Camino de Santiago. The deputy delegate, accompanied by the commander Manuel Touceda, welcomed the police from Italy, Portugal and Brazil integrated into the security device of the Camino Frances.
The deputy delegate greeted the agents and thanked them “for the support they give us to ensure the safety of the people who travel these pilgrimage routes, a priority for the Government.” In addition, she stressed that “there are many people of different nationalities who make the Camino and, therefore, it is fortunate to have the participation of members of the security forces of other countries collaborating with our agents in the protection of pilgrims,” said the subdelegate. Isabel Rodríguez explained that “this July we will have within the Xacobeo Security Plan deployed by the Civil Guard the presence of 4 agents of the Rodovia Police of Brazil, 1 agent of the GNR of Portugal, and 1 of the body of Carabinieri of Italy.” In the month of August, an agent from Italy, one from Germany and another from the United States will also be incorporated.
The subdelegate pointed out that the Government’s commitment to the safety and protection of pilgrims “is demonstrated with specific campaigns to that end”, recalling the recent presentation “this week of a new edition of No Caminas Sola, by a path free of male violence” promoted by the Units against violence against women.
