The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, confirmed this morning the government’s commitment to the extension of the railway variant of A Pobra de San Xiao in Lugo in a meeting with the mayor of Láncara, Darío Piñeiro, and with the first deputy mayor and provincial deputy, Pablo Rivera. These works, with an investment of 21.6 million euros, will begin at the beginning of 2024 and are part of those planned for the improvement and modernization of the Ourense–Monforte railway corridor of Lemos–Lugo, with a total budget of 550 million euros for the renewal of the line.
The delegate said that thanks to this investment “the province will be more connected than ever, moving forward with an improvement in services and mobility in rural areas”. The main objective of this action responds to a need of the residents of the municipality “to open more immediate connecting routes at the regional level and with other places in the province, an issue with which the Government of Spain shows its commitment to facts”.
In this line, Pedro Blanco stressed that the Government of Spain made a total investment of 934,371 euros directly in the municipality. Among other issues, this aid allowed the implementation of actions in the field of waste collection, thanks to the Government Recovery Plan.
Demographic Challenge
The municipality of Láncara belongs to the Demographic Challenge, having strategies to guarantee a balance and functionality of the municipalities, addressing the challenge through mechanisms that promote territorial cohesion. The delegate also made progress in the modernization and transition to the digital aspect of the municipality through the UNICO - Broadband program that will allow to bring high-speed fiber to 1,204 homes/companies in Lancara, through 610 projects that are being implemented, thus bringing the high-speed internet connection thanks.
Through the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, the Government also launched the Mentor Classroom, an initiative that offers online training and tutoring, with a catalogue of more than 170 courses in various training areas to expand knowledge, with funding available to local Concello entities for the creation of their Mentor Classroom.
