The Government Delegation reports on the recent resolution of the Secretary of State for Equality by which the Government transfers 1.7 million euros to the municipalities of Galicia to finance actions they carry out within the State Pact against gender violence.
Second agreed this department of the Ministry of Equality, the municipalities of Galicia will receive this year 1,779,012.52 euros for the implementation of measures and programs for the fight against male violence within the State Pact against Gender Violence. By province, the municipalities of the province of A Coruña will receive 685,612.26 euros; those of Lugo, 223,532.81€; the province of Ourense, 316,772.52€ and the municipalities of Pontevedra will receive 553,094.93€.
The distribution criteria were established by Royal Decree 503/2022, of June 27. The fixed amount for each municipality is combined with variable amounts according to population criteria, incorporation into the Comprehensive Monitoring System in cases of Gender Violence (VioGen System) of the Ministry of the Interior and the existence of victim users of the Telephone Service of Attention and Protection for victims of gender violence (Atenpro) registered in the municipality on June 1, 2023.
Municipalities should allocate these funds to programmes for the eradication of violence against women. They will be able to carry out awareness-raising and prevention campaigns; strengthen municipal services for the care and information of victims of violence against women; or carry out actions aimed at the continued specialized training of local professionals in the field of equality between women and men.
From 2018 to 2023, the Government of Spain transferred 9,125,889.45 euros to the municipalities of Galicia to promote actions against male violence. An investment that responds to the decision of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to expand local competences in the fight against male violence and to accompany them with the necessary funding. With this decision, the Government recognized the essential role of municipalities in disseminating and supporting measures to eliminate violence against women of any kind.
Investments of 14.7 million euros in 2023
In 2023 alone, the Government of Spain allocates more than 14.7 million euros to Galicia for policies against gender violence, of which 13 million euros will go to the Xunta and 1.7 million to the municipalities.
Within the funds allocated to the Xunta, 11 million euros must be dedicated to actions of the State Pact against Gender Violence. This transfer is joined by one million euros from the Government Delegation against Gender Violence. This amount will be dedicated to financing comprehensive social assistance programs aimed at gender victims (439,581€), programs for the implementation of personalized plans (63,594.35€), programs to support victims of sexual assault or abuse (529,763€) and programs to prevent sexual abuse in minors under guardianship (43,854€).
Finally, the Xunta also receives 1.2 million euros this year to extend and make accessible comprehensive care services to all potential victims of all forms of violence against women. This amount is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and is the last payment of the program to create permanent care centers for victims of violence against women in the four Galician provinces.
