The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, today described as “historic milestone” for the naval industry of Galicia and the region of Ferrol the setting of the F-111 frigate “Bonifaz”, the first of the F-110 program contracted by the Government to the public company Navantia.
María Rivas attended this morning in the public shipyards of Ferrol the act of setting the keel of this first military unit that is “a new sample of how the Government of Pedro Sánchez complies with Ferrol” and that “joins the investments that we are executing such as the railway of the Puerto Exterior or the humanization of the avenue of the Pias”.
The deputy delegate insisted that “Ferrol is a key and fundamental piece in the programs of the Ministry of Defense in relation to the Navy, and not only now but for a very long period of time.” And he recalled that this act occurs one year and four months after the cutting of the first sheet metal, which was presided over by the president of the Government Pedro Sánchez: “a fact that shows the good progress of this program” and that, again, places Ferrol at the global forefront of the military naval industry. The deputy delegate expressed her satisfaction with this development and conveyed the congratulations to the staff of Navantia and the auxiliary companies that work for it.
F-110 program
The F-110 Program, which runs in the Galician shipyard, will provide the Navy with five polyvalent escorts, which will relieve the current F-80s of the “Santa Maria” class. The new ships will be designed for high-intensity scenarios providing an adapted response to the changing environment of the 21st century as well as a fundamental boost for the national defense industry.
The program has a direct investment of 4,325 million euros and will have a great socioeconomic impact for the region, with the generation of 9,000 direct and indirect jobs and the participation of more than 500 Spanish companies. The high degree of nationalization translates into almost two-thirds of the F-110 teams being Spanish.
