The Deputy Delegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, participated this morning in the opening ceremony of the Tourism and Thermalism Project: IMSERSO-CNSE′ that took place today in Vigo. Under this project, financed by the Government, the Olivary city will receive this week and the next 200 deaf people who will be able to enjoy a leisure program adapted to their needs.
During her speech, the subdelegate welcomed “the province of Pontevedra and the city of Vigo” to all the attendees, and reminded them “the multiple and diverse possibilities for enjoying the holidays” offered by the Rías Baixas.
This initiative, funded by the Institute of Elderly and Social Services (IMSERSO) and organized by the State Confederation of Deaf People (CNSE), is part of the support for tourism and thermalism actions for people with disabilities of the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030. The project allows the people who participate in it to enjoy a week of holidays in a Spanish region, which varies every year, offering a leisure alternative adapted and designed for deaf people. On this occasion, the city of Vigo was chosen to receive, in two consecutive shifts, the two hundred participants.
Maica Larriba recalled that the Government of Spain has been supporting “tourism and thermalism programs for more than a decade as a way to improve the quality of life and health of the elderly and those with functional diversity, since it is demonstrated that these rest and leisure periods favor interpersonal relationships and result in the improvement of the health of all its participants.” The deputy delegate also stressed another of the fundamental pillars of these actions, “integration, a fundamental goal of this Government and which guarantees, following the constitutional mandate, equal opportunities for all people.”
The first round of participants will remain in the city of Vigo from 7 to 12 May and the second from 14 to 19. During their stay, they will make different excursions polo sur de Galicia and visit some of its natural parks.
