He stressed that this service “fulfils a daily social function, offering a basic procedure to the citizens of this region”, which until now was provided in the capital of the province or through a mobile unit that went once a month to this town.
Accompanied by the mayor of O Barco, Alfredo García; the subdelegate of the Government in the province, Emilio González, and the provincial commissioner of the National Police of Ourense, Juan Carlos Blázquez, toured the facilities of this unit, which depends on the Provincial Police Station of the National Police Force in Ourense.
The delegate recalled that this office is the result of the joint work of the Ministry of the Interior and the local government of O Barco de Valdeorras. The City Council contributed the facilities, located on the second floor of the Municipal Multipurpose Building, and the General Directorate of the Police contributed the necessary personnel and technological equipment.
The Documentation Unit of the Barco de Valdeorras serves around 27,000 inhabitants of the region of Ourense, composed of ten municipalities. The facilities have four document issuance posts that allow the issuance of both ID cards and passports and identification cards of foreigners to the inhabitants of the Valdeorras region, thus facilitating the attention of administrative issues of issuance of documents such as operations in the field of foreigners.
Gómez Besteiro reported that, since last December, this unit has issued about 1,900 official documents, preventing these people from having to travel to Ourense to carry out these procedures.
Specifically, since last December, 1,400 identity documents (ID cards), 400 passports and 60 extranxeiros identification cards (TIE cards) were issued.
