The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, today stressed in O Saviñao the importance of the modernization of the wine industry in the province, which generates wealth and employment, “to increase the competitiveness of wine producers, improve sustainable production systems and reduce the environmental footprint of this productive sector, consolidating, in this way, the wines of the Ribeira Sacra in the international purchases, which come from beating a historical record of exports, with more than 280,000 liters sold in the campaign of 2022.”
Isabel Rodríguez visited this Monday the facilities of Abadía da Cova, of Adegas Moure, where she could know in situ the operation of the same, from the plantation of the grapes to the collection by hand in the harvest, naturally going through the production process and its subsequent marketing of the wine, with Denomination of Origin Ribeira Sacra.
The subdelegate said that “it is an obligation of all to support this type of companies that choose excellence and quality from the point of view of the environment”. In this sense, he pointed out that the contribution of this and the other wineries of the Ribeira Sacra is fundamental for the economy of the province of Lugo, “that is why we must promote both the brand image and tourism linked to the territories where they are produced, a basic element when it comes to publicizing the culture and identity of the Ribeira Sacra outside our borders.”
Throughout her visit, Isabel Rodríguez was able to see from the hand of the manager, Evaristo Rodríguez, the marked artisanal character of this company that maintains from its origins a family business structure that made the care of the raw material, from practically its beginnings back in the fifties of the last century, a strategic objective of its business, and with which today it sells some 350,000 bottles of wine a year and another 250,000 of spirits and liqueurs, exporting different European countries such as Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Finland or Sweden, and other markets such as Mexico, Canada, USA or China.
In this line, the subdelegate wanted to highlight the commitment of the wineries of the Ribeira Sacra to innovation not only in the facilities but also in the launch of wines that seek to connect with the changing and different tastes of potential customers, especially young people, obtaining products of excellent quality. “This is demonstrated by Abadía de la Cueva, which comes from receiving a “Great Gold”, awarded by the Spanish Federation of Oenologists, for one of its white wines, evidencing the recognition and quality in the elaboration of the wines of the south of the province of Lucense,” said Isabel Rodríguez.

The Lucense company continues its growth process, working on 22 hectares of the territory, consolidating itself as an innovative entity and a reference within the Ribeira Sacra. Currently, it has more than 20 employees, who work in the winery for winemaking new wines, in the laboratory or in the winery for micro-winemaking, where R+D+I projects are developed, among other facilities.
