The Subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas has visited the roundabout of Rúa de Francos in Teo, to check the works of modification of the roundabout, which have had an investment of 217,654 euros. The deputy delegate has been accompanied in her visit by the mayor of Teo, Rafael Sisto, the councilor and spokeswoman of the Psoe, Uxía Lemus and the head of the State Road Demarcation in Galicia, Angel González del Río.
María Rivas highlighted “the investment effort that the Government of Spain is making in the conservation and maintenance of the state road network in the province: more than 75 million euros since 2018” She insisted on the “clear and firm commitment of this Government to recover the lost time in the infrastructures of the province, unblocking long-demanded projects such as this roundabout”.
The works on Teo’s roundabout have consisted in the transformation of the existing intersection at kilometre point 72 of the N-550 that was a departure roundabout, by a closed roundabout, much safer. In addition, a pedestrian route has been implemented between the two bus stops in this section through the creation of sidewalks and a new pedestrian crossing regulated with a pushbutton traffic light.
In this regard, María Rivas has pointed out that “increasing safety in this section, building sidewalks to be able to access the bus stops or installing a traffic light and a pedestrian crossing are basic actions but that the citizens demand and need”.
The deputy delegate stressed that sometimes the important actions are not only the "great works that grab the headlines but also simpler interventions that significantly improve the quality of life of neighbors and neighbors, as is the case with this gazebo".
There are an average of 18,000 vehicles per day on this section of the N-550, of which 6% are heavy vehicles.
This action is part of the program of conservation and maintenance of the State Road Network that represents a significant impulse to improve the road infrastructure.
Technical Features
As for the technical characteristics, the main actions carried out with the works have been:
• Modification of the intersection located at kilometric point 72 of access to Lampai and Faramello transforming it into a closed gazebo.
• Adaptation and improvement of vertical and horizontal signage to accommodate the new configuration, which includes the installation of a new flag, as well as the prohibition of left turns between kilometer points. 72.0 to 72.6, since with the new roundabout executed, the turns can be made, using the existing roundabouts at the beginning and end of this stretch.
• Execution of a pedestrian crossing at kilometer point 72.5 as well as the placement of a traffic light with push button in order to provide the section with greater security for the pedestrian crossing.
• Construction of sidewalks that make a safe route between bus stops located on both sides of the state road.
• Conditioning of the bus stops in their new locations after the execution of the roundabout.
