The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, highlighted today in Santiago the government’s commitment to improving municipal services, with 3.32 million euros to rehabilitate two sports centers through the Program to Promote the Rehabilitation of Public Buildings (PIREP). “The Government’s Recovery Plan comes to Santiago to improve the quality of life in its neighborhood,” said José Miñones. Specifically, the Government finances with 2.3 M€ the integral reform of the Santa Isabel sports complex and with about one million the work of the Vite sports center. Both facilities, owned by the municipality, were beneficiaries in the recent resolution of Line 1 of the Local PIREP, the aid program with which the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) granted 27.3 million euros to Galician municipalities and deputations for the rehabilitation of 36 public buildings of its ownership. Santiago was the Galician municipality that received the most funds.
The government delegate visited the sports complex of Santa Isabel accompanied by the mayor, Xosé Sánchez Bugallo, with whom he reviewed the different lines of action of the central executive. “With Pedro Sánchez in the Government of Spain and Xosé Sánchez Bugallo in the mayor’s office, Santiago attracted 300 million euros of investment,” said the delegate. The assistant delegate in A Coruña, María Rivas, also participated in the visit.
Santa Isabel’s work receives government aid of 2,340,149 euros and has a total cost of 2,975,903 euros. It will improve the energy efficiency, sustainability, accessibility, habitability, safety and conservation of this sports complex.
For its part, the rehabilitation of the municipal sports center of Vite receives 979,278 euros from the PIREP for a project amounting to 1,325,277 euros. The action contemplates the change of the exterior cover, the roof, all the elements of waterproofing, light, water and services. “It is the neighbors and neighbors of Santiago who are the main beneficiaries of this work,” said José Miñones.
Santiago also benefited from the autonomous line of the PIREP, with an injection of 3.86 million euros transferred to the Xunta de Galicia for the rehabilitation of the CEIP Maestro Rodríguez Xixirei and the IES Lamas de Abade. The delegate added that the Ministry will soon resolve the concession of Line 2 of the Local PIREP, which will allow municipalities to continue moving forward in the improvement of public buildings.

Among the main actions are the intermodal station, the Orbital link, the Orbitaliño, the Civil Guard headquarters, the debugger and the injections to boost tourism. “The commitment of the Government of Spain to the municipalities is firm and is translating into tangible investments and improvements in public services in Santiago de Compostela,” concluded José Miñones.
