The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, inaugurated today the new facilities of the Center of Attention and Information of the Social Security (CAISS) of Monforte de Lemos “with which the Government fulfills the commitment made to the neighbors of the regions of Lemos, Chantada and Quiroga, offering a better service to the public, in a more comfortable and better conditioned facilities”. Isabel Rodríguez verified the results of the works of integral rehabilitation of this building, which had an investment of 514,000 euros from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, accompanied by the deputy mayor, Gloria Prada, and the provincial director of the National Institute of Social Security and the General Treasury of Social Security, Juan José Rodríguez Gude, as well as other members of the municipal government team.
The subdelegate supervised the start of the activity in the new units, for which the last two years nearly 20,000 people spent, which now summer improved the attention with a “clear, accessible building with an area of 350 square meters, with work and waiting areas for the public redistributed, in addition to increasing the luminosity and energy efficiency of the building”, in the line of work of the Government to guarantee access to the management of benefits, a fundamental pillar of the rule of law.
“This is another demonstration of the commitment that the Government of Pedro Sánchez maintains with Lugo and its sensitivity to the needs of the municipalities of our province,” said Isabel Rodríguez, who pointed out to project imports to “improve and strengthen an essential service for citizens, more necessary than ever to successfully develop the increase by the Central Executive of benefits as important as pensions and Minimum Vital Income, which protect the middle classes and workers of the province.”
On the other hand, the subdelegate had words of thanks to the City of Monforte de Lemos for its collaboration “allowing, during the time in which the works were done, that the CAISS could continue to provide its services with total normality”. Thus, since the beginning of the work, in the month of January last year, the CAISS moved to the Multiusos Building of municipal ownership, less than 200 meters away from the current center, located on San Pedro Street.
Comprehensive building rehabilitation
Isabel Rodríguez recalled that these were the first important actions that were carried out in the building since its opening, in 1990, which presented problems of humidity and air conditioning, motivated by the poor state of its isolation “being necessary to act quickly”. The works, funded by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, consisted of adapting the distribution of the interior space to ensure accessibility for people with reduced mobility, also providing the building with new facilities of envelope and thermal insulation, carpentry, lighting and air conditioning, improving the energy efficiency of the property.
Thanks to this work, the new venue has an area of access, reception and waiting, a large space with five public service posts, a meeting room and another one for self-management, “allowing to offer personalized and closer attention to the citizen, in addition to enhancing the quality of service”, added the subdelegate.
Service to more than 55,000 people
A Social Security provides services in its offices in Monforte de Lemos for a population of more than 55,000 people in the regions of Lemos, Chantada and Quiroga, currently served by 5 public employees. It is the second center in volume of attention in the province of Lugo, with 8,512 users in 2021 and a total of 11,406 people in the year 2022. “A reflection of the importance of these new facilities for the south of the province of Lugo,” said Rodríguez.
Among the topics that motivated the greatest number of consultations are, by this order, retirement benefits, temporary disability and minimum vital income.
Network of modernized centers throughout the province
The actions of Monforte de Lemos are in addition to those carried out in the new office that built the Social Security in Viveiro, thus achieving a network of modernized centers throughout the province, composed of seven regional headquarters that provide coverage throughout the provincial territory. Specifically, they are located in Lugo, Sarria, Monforte, Mondoñedo, Viveiro, Vilalba and Ribadeo.
In this regard, the subdelegate recalled that the province of Lugo is one of those that has the shortest waiting time for the granting of appointments throughout Spain, and recalls that users have a provincial phone, the 982 293 300 for the management of appointments and personalized attention by specialized personnel. In addition to providing face-to-face and telephone attention through the CAISS, online procedures can be carried out at the INSS, through the website www.seg-social.es. To do this, the person must have a digital certificate (DNIe, permanent Cl@ve or FNMT certificate) or have declared their mobile phone to the Social Security.
