The Council of Ministers has approved an agreement authorizing the application of the Contingency Fund to finance credit modifications in the amount of 170 million euros to meet the expenditure related to air transport subsidies to residents in the Autonomous Communities of the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands and the Cities of Ceuta and Melilla, with the rest of the Spanish territory.
The purpose of the allocation of the Contingency Fund provided for in this agreement is specifically to provide for an extension of credit to the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda to meet the cost of air transport subsidies to residents of the aforementioned communities and autonomous cities.
The Law of General Budgets of the State for the year 2018 authorized the Government, in the year 2018, and with indefinite validity, to increase to 75% the percentage of the bonus for the trips between the Canary and Balearic Islands and Ceuta and Melilla with the rest of the Spanish territory.
To this end, Royal Decree 949/2018, of 27 July, was approved, which modifies the amount of the subsidy for the regular air and maritime transport of residents in the territories indicated with the rest of the national territory. For this reason, the Contingency Fund must be available in an amount of EUR 170 million in order to meet the bonuses provided for in the 2023 financial year.
