The number of people registered in the offices of the Public Service of State Employment (SEPE), at the end of March, has decreased by 48,755 people (-1.67%) in relation to the previous month. This relative decline is the largest in the last two decades.
This is particularly positive in an international financial economic context of uncertainty, especially in the financial sphere.
The registered unemployment has stood at 2,862,260 people, the lowest figure in a month of March since 2008.
Unemployment by sex and age
In relation to the month of February, female unemployment decreased by 25,897 women (-1.48%) and stood at a total of 1,718,323, the lowest figure in the last 15 years.
In the last two years, registered unemployment among women has fallen by 559,776 women.
Male unemployment fell by 22,858 men (-1.96%) to a total of 1,143,937.and female unemployment by 1,718,323 decreased by 25,897 (-1.48%) in relation to the month of February.
Unemployment among young people under 25 years of age fell in March by 267 people (-0.12%) compared to the previous month. It is the first time in the last 9 years that unemployment among young people has fallen in a month of March.
The number of young people under 25 years of age unemployed stands at 215,099, the lowest in a month of March of the entire historical series.
Signed contracts
The total number of contracts registered during the month of March has been 1,315,095. Of these, 615,674 open-ended employment contracts account for 46.82 per cent of all contracts.
Unemployment benefits
The existing beneficiaries at the end of the month were 1,863,952. The coverage of the unemployment protection system during the month of February 2023 has been 68.11%.
The average monthly expenditure per beneficiary, not including the agricultural subsidy of Andalusia and Extremadura, in the month of February 2023 has been 1,070.7 euros.
The total amount of benefits stood at 1,952.7 million euros in the month of February.
