February 9, 2024.- In 2023 a total of 260 acts of graffiti vandalism were reported in Castilla y León. The vandals painted more than 4,500 m2 of surface on trains and more than 880 hours were needed for their cleaning. In total, the graffiti made in the region generated a cost of more than 1.4 million euros.
Last year, graffiti vandalism on Renfe trains nationwide generated a cost of 25 million euros. This figure includes, in addition to the cleaning itself, the indirect costs that arise from this scourge, such as the investment in security, both of personnel and other technological systems.
The users directly suffer the consequences of the trains vandalized with graffiti. Delays and trains suppressed due to lack of visibility or graffiti on the safety elements that prevent circulation, emergency braking to paint in the middle of a journey or the smell of this chemical that is very annoying to travelers, among others.
