December 12, 2023.- The Council of Ministers at its meeting today and on the proposal of the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has approved the appointment of Virginia Barcones Sanz as new General Director of Civil Protection and Emergencies. The designation will have effect after its publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

Virginia Barcones Sanz (Soria, June 6, 1976), holds a degree in law from UNED. She is a Local Government official with national qualifications, subscale Secretary - Intervention. She has been secretary-intervener of various municipalities, deputy general of the Subdelegation of the Government in Soria between 2009 and 2012, councillor of the City of Berlanga de Duero and deputy in the Provincial Council of Soria between 2007 and 2015. She has also held the position of attorney in the Cortes de Castilla y León following the 2015 and 2019 regional elections and as deputy spokesperson for the socialist parliamentary group in this House. She has held the position of government delegate in Castilla y León between June 2018 and April 2019 and from October 2021 to December 2023.
