Toledo.- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, this morning displayed the commemorative banner of 8M, International Women's Day, on the facade of the Government Delegation, in Toledo. It has been accompanied by female officers of the Civil Guard and the National Police, by representatives of the María de Padilla Women’s Association and by the secretaries-general of CCOO and UGT in the autonomous community, Paco de la Rosa and Luis Manuel Monforte.
“Don’t forget we’re feminists”
Milagros Tolón has pointed out to the media that it is necessary to make visible on March 8, “Women’s Day. Half of the Spanish population are women and we are going to make visible the problems that Spanish and Castilian-Manchegas women have. We will continue to work to resolve these problems, because there is still a long way to go and there are still political parties that deny the equality of men and women. I consider myself enormously feminist because I believe in equality between women and men in this country and on this planet.”
The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha has stressed that “we are going to continue working 365 days a year, although this is not an ordinary week. First, by the visibility of the women who are currently breaking ceilings; and second by the sorority among the women themselves. It is important that we women support each other and that is why I also want to highlight the policies carried out by the Government of Spain. Today there are more open-ended contracts for women and today the gap with men has decreased by 4.3 percent, but it is not enough and we have to continue moving forward and working. And here we are, from the Delegation of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, so that we do not forget that we are feminists and that, therefore, we believe in the equality of men and women.”
Emotional memory of Carmen Fernández
Milagros Tolón has thanked the Civil Guard, the National Police, UGT, CCOO and the women’s association María de Padilla, “an association that has always been there, both in my time as mayor of Toledo and now as delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha. And I want this act also to serve as a tribute to a woman who accompanies me from up there, a tribute to Carmen Fernández (now deceased and who was the driving force and president of the María de Padilla association), a pioneering woman in a pioneering association.”
Finally, Milagros Tolón recalled the other events organized by the Delegation of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha throughout the week on the occasion of International Women’s Day, such as the exhibition “A Vision Own”, at the Museo del Greco, portraits of women photographed by women; a play with “Las Sinsombrero” on Thursday 7 in the assembly hall of the Chamber of Commerce; or the screening of the last short documentary winner of the Goya this year, “AVA”, by the director, producer and actress Mabel.
