- The government delegate in Cantabria and the Minister of Industry and Employment have detailed that the employment situation of almost 1,700 workers has been regularized
The activity of the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate in Cantabria between January and October 2025 has led to more than 16.3 million euros in fraud and sanctions and has regularized the employment situation of almost 1,700 workers.
This was highlighted by the government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, and the Minister of Industry, Employment, Innovation and Trade, Eduardo Arasti, this Thursday before the meeting of the Autonomous Operational Commission of Cantabria of the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate that they have presided over.
In the meeting, which was led by the territorial director of the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate, Miguel Ángel Gálvez, they reviewed the activity developed by this body in the areas of prevention of occupational risks, employment and labour relations, social security, irregular economy and foreigners.
As they have highlighted, the work of inspectors until October has allowed the regularization of the labor situation of 1,666 workers and, of the more than 16.3 million euros that have been collected thanks to the actions of the inspectors and sub-inspectors, more than 8.8 million correspond to Social Security liquidations, another 6.39 million to sanctions and another 1.17 million to recovered salaries.
The government delegate in Cantabria stressed that these figures are achieved thanks to “the excellent work carried out by the inspectors and sub-inspectors of the administration”, who carry out an “important and valuable joint work” in the Labour Inspectorate through which job insecurity and fraud are combated.
Casares also highlighted the “joint work” of the Government of Spain and that of Cantabria through the Labour Inspectorate, which allows “workers to be defended” in situations such as not being registered in the Social Security, working days longer than those listed or being in an irregular working situation.
In the same vein, the Minister of Industry, Employment, Innovation and Trade has highlighted “the effort of inspections”. He also stressed that the results obtained “demonstrate not only the importance of the Labour Inspectorate but also the need to further intensify the monitoring of labour regulations.”
Arasti has highlighted that, of the almost 1,700 workers to whom the situation has been regularized, about 400 were false self-employed. It is, he said, “very good data” and also results in “good results” of workplace accidents in the community, where minor accidents have been reduced by 7%, serious accidents by 21% and deaths by 63% until the end of October.
SOCIAL SECURITY AND CONTROL OF THE ILLEGAL AND FOREIGN ECONOMY
The government delegate in Cantabria has given an account of the state matters framed in the work of the Inspection. Within the Social Security Area, a total of 738 infractions have been detected, with 3,714,412 euros in penalties and affecting 982 workers.
It has also detailed that settlements have been made in the amount of 8.89 million euros in cases of lack of social security contributions. In this context, there have been 1,382 increases in Social Security.
In addition, Casares has indicated that, in the field of Irregular Economy and Foreigners, the lack of authorization to work as an employed person is consolidated as the first infraction in Cantabria. In this matter, the sanctions amounted to 709,015 euros.
The Labour Inspectorate also carries out joint interventions with the State Security Forces and Corps and, until October, has carried out 33 with the National Police and 30 with the Civil Guard.
Casares has highlighted the “firm commitment” to workers’ rights and has praised that the Labour Inspectorate is “a key body for the defense of labour rights” and, therefore, the Government of Spain works to strengthen it with “important structural transformations”.
PREVENTION OF OCCUPATIONAL RISKS, EMPLOYMENT AND LABOUR RELATIONS
Regarding the areas of regional competence, the counselor has detailed that in Prevention of Occupational Risks, 738 infractions have been detected until the end of October, with an amount of 1.54 million euros and that have affected 3,276 workers. In total, 1,786 actions and 2,017 preventive requirements have been carried out in this area.
On the other hand, in the Area of Employment and Labor Relations, it has indicated that the Inspection has carried out 1,508 actions, detecting 251 infractions with sanctions in the amount of 323,883 euros and the affected workers have amounted to 1,071.
