- The deployment of this second track along 6 km increases the capacity, reliability and operability in a key section of the C1 Santander-Reinosa line.
- At the same time, passenger and freight trains linking the Cantabrian capital with the Plateau also benefit.
- The Ministry, through Adif, continues to work on the doubling of the track of the Renedo-Guarnizo section and other improvements in the rest of the Torrelavega and Santander line, with a global investment of more than 150 million euros.
The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has completed the work and tomorrow puts into service the second track of the Muriedas-Santander section (6 km) of the Palencia–Santander line, which has had an investment of 38.8 million euros (VAT included) executed by Adif, and which will allow to increase the capacity, reliability and operability of the infrastructure in a key section of the C1 Santander-Reinosa line.
This duplication of the track and its associated facilities (electrification and signalling) benefits not only the proximity services, but also the trains that link the Cantabrian capital with the Plateau, both for passengers and goods. In addition, it will be completed with the doubling of another 10 km of track between Renedo and Guarnizo, in which work continues with the mobilization of another 58.6 million euros.
Duplication of the Muriedas-Santander section
This is a noteworthy action of the Commuter Plan of Cantabria, which has a global injection of 1,599 million euros to increase the capacity of the network and increase the frequency of trains.
The works in the Muriedas-Santander section have consisted of mounting a second track overcoming the engineering technical challenge presented by the composition of the land in the area, with a high humidity.
In addition, 14 detours have been installed and it has been equipped with electrification and all the signalling and communication systems, new and latest technology that allow circulation on the new road in both directions, as well as remote and real-time traffic management.
In addition, the Valdecilla and Nueva Montaña campsites release new facilities and facilities that improve the space for travelers and its accessibility. In particular:
· The Valdecilla walkway has a new platform with a pedestrian walkway, stairs and elevator;
· And the one in Nueva Montaña has been completely renovated: it has a new central platform and a new metal pedestrian walkway with ramps and elevator to access the platform, which will also have refuges for passengers.
· To these performances we must add those of the logistics terminal of Muriedas, where the length of the section paths has been extended.
In total, the investments promoted by the Ministry in the Torrelavega–Santander route (30 km) exceed 150 million euros and include, in addition to the duplications, the complete renovation of the track in its 30 km length, already carried out; new security and telecommunications facilities; and additional improvements in the Torrelavega–Renedo and Guarnizo-Muriedas sections.
After the second road between Muriedas and Santander has been put into service, and once the doubling of the Renedo-Guarnizo section is completed, the Torrelavegas-Santander route will have double tracks in the middle of its route, state-of-the-art signalling systems and important improvements in several stations.
Renedo-Guarnizo section
In parallel, the Ministry works to complete the duplication of track between Renedo and Guarnizo, in which a new concrete slab is built at the height of Parbayón to channel the 400 m route of the double track as it passes through the area, which has also meant the suppression of a level crossing in Piélagos.
It is also working, simultaneously with the commercial exploitation, in the improvement of the Parbayón apeadero with a new location on a straight stretch closer to the urban center, equipped with accessible access and with a parking lot.
Finally, mention that Adif has also recently completed works to improve the facilities and strengthen the accessibility of the station of Torrelavegas-Tano, which includes the construction of a new lower passage that connects the platforms, equipped with stairs and elevators.
