Casares held a meeting with the members of the Mobility and Road Safety Unit of the Civil Guard for this Tour before the beginning of the 13th stage, leaving in the Cantabrian municipality of Cabezón de la Sal and finishing in the L’Angliru in Asturias.
He has praised that the important safety device on the occasion of both this stage and the day of this Thursday has allowed the passage of La Vuelta through Cantabria to have developed “without incident” and has allowed the fans to enjoy “the best cycling”.
Regarding the device, he has detailed that the Mobile Unit of the Civil Guard that accompanies the Tour is composed of 132 agents of various specialties, and to it is also added the specific unit of the National Police for the test with 65 personnel.
While in Cantabria, on the occasion of the full stage in the region on Thursday and the departure from Cabezón de la Sal on Friday, a specific device has also been established with almost 200 agents.
“In total about 400 agents of the State Security Forces and Corps in Cantabria, with more than 200 in vehicles such as motorbikes, SUVs, vans and the Civil Guard helicopter”, added the delegate, who expressed his appreciation for the work of the Police and Civil Guard troops to “ensure that everything goes normally”.
In this regard, Casares referred to the citizens’ rallies in defense of the Palestinian people during the development of La Vuelta, also in Cantabria, and expressed his “solidarity with the people of Palestine” and the rejection “of barbarism” that Israel is committing in the Gaza Strip.
“Our solidarity and our recognition of so many protesters who are peacefully claiming a just cause,” emphasized the delegate, who insisted on “what the state of Israel is doing in Gaza is genocide against a defenceless people.”
For Casares, “this is not about a war, this is about a massacre that has already caused 70,000 deaths in the Gaza Strip, many of them boys and girls” and in front of it he has indicated that the Government of Spain works so that “this ends now” with the search for “a solution”.
On the mergers during the development of La Vuelta, for the participation in the test of the Israel-Premier Tech team, the government delegate in Cantabria has pointed out that “the desirable thing is that the company behind the Israel team does not continue” in the test and has supported the “peaceful and uneventful” mergers that have been carried out in Cantabria and that “all they do is claim a just cause”.
