Adif will reinforce the Raos viaduct, a concrete structure of almost one kilometre in length, which is part of the Santander-Bilbao metric width line as it passes through Cantabria.
This action, which is part of the Proximity Plan of Cantabria, represents an investment of 2.1 million euros and will contribute to strengthening the structure of the viaduct, optimizing its drainage and improving the access roads. The works, which have been awarded to the company Levantina Ingeniería y Construcciones, complete those carried out in a first phase, with which the railway line that it channels was renewed.
The Raos viaduct is the infrastructure with which the Madrid-Santander line bypasses, successively, the estuary of the same name, a motorway, a railway line and the marshes of Alday.
Boosting the Outreach Plan
Adif advances in the modernization of the metric width network according to the planning of the Proximity Plan of Cantabria.
The action in the Raos viaduct is in addition to other milestones that the company develops within this plan, among them, the integration of the railway in Torrelavega, with the recent tender of the provisional diversion, which will channel the railway service while working for the layout of the Santander-Oviedo metric width line to pass through the city through a tunnel; and the investment of 14.6 million euros to continue modernizing the electrification of the network.
It will also address with an investment of 28.5 million euros the modernization of security facilities in the Torrelavega–Santander (Santander-Oviedo line), Santander-Nueva Montaña and Maliaño–Astillero sections (Santander-Bilbao line); and the Cabezón de la Sal-Torrelavega section, in the Santander-Oviedo line, for another 12 million.
These actions contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, which has among its goals to develop reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructures.
