The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, today conveyed all the solidarity and support of the Government of Spain to those affected by the sinking of the fishing vessel “Vilaboa Uno”, which occurred yesterday morning off the coast of Cabo Mayor, in the Cantabrian Sea.
Planas has met today, in Santander, with the relatives of the fishermen of the shipwreck and with the ship’s shipowners. Previously, the minister had a meeting with the Maritime Rescue team and the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard. He has highlighted the great work done by both and by the Social Institute of the Navy. The minister has highlighted the collaboration provided by the Autonomous Community of Cantabria and, especially, the work of the entire fishing sector to rescue the 7 survivors and recover the bodies of the two deceased. One of the crew members remains missing.
The president of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, and the delegate of the Government in the autonomous community, Ainoa Quiñones, have accompanied the minister in these meetings.
The minister also expressed the Government ' s willingness to continue the search efforts. He has announced that from tomorrow the Civil Guard will incorporate a robot that will be able to take images of the sunken boat and know its situation.
In addition to conveying a message of affection and solidarity with the pain of relatives and relatives, the minister has said that it is time to recognize the work of the more than 32,000 Spanish fishermen who each day carry out a very hard work and who have many risks in order to provide the population with fresh high-quality food.
