In 2025, 28 fatal accidents occurred on the roads of Asturias, in which 28 people lost their lives, in addition to 184 others requiring hospitalization.
Compared to 2025, fatal accidents (+3), deaths (+1) and hospitalized injuries (+63) are on the increase.
MOBILITY
At the national level, long-distance travel increases by 3.39%, reaching the absolute record of 478.56 million movements. In Asturias, the increase in displacement is estimated at around 2%.
FIRST ANALYSIS OF THE ACCIDENT
By type of track. Conventional roads continue to be the ones that register the most deaths, contributing 68% of the total (19), although the number of people who lost their lives on this type of road decreases compared to 2024 (-3), increasing in motorways and motorways that pass 5 to 9.
By type of accident. The road departure was the sinister that produced a greater number of deaths, 46% of the total (13 people, 3 less than in 2024). The frontal collisions were the sinister ones that increased the most, going from 3 to 6 deaths. Pedestrian atrocities were sustained with 2 fatalities.
By means of displacement. Vulnerable groups and media accounted for 36% (10) of the total deaths, 2 more than in 2024, being significant the growth in the number of bicycle users who lost their lives, which went from 0 in 2024 to 3 in 2025. Pedestrians (2) and motorcycle users (5) are maintained. The medium of displacement with the most deaths was tourism with 14 (50% of the total).
By age. The number of people who died over 65 years of age (12) stands out, accounting for 43% of the total and 7 more than in 2024. The age group in which most people lost their lives was 55 to 64 with 7. It highlights the decrease experienced by the group of 35 to 44 years that goes from 7 to 1. No child under 14 years of age died.
By sex. As usual, the number of men far exceeds that of women. In 2025, 82% of the deaths were men (23) and 18% women (5), 1 more man and the same number of women as in 2024.
For a temporary period. According to the month in which the victims died, the largest number of them occurred in May (5, 18%), followed by September and October with 4 fatalities each. In February, April and June, no one lost their lives.
By day of the week, Saturday was the one with the highest number of deaths (6, 21%) and the time section with the highest fatal accident was the one from 14:00 to 19:59 hours with (12, 43%).
Use of security elements. 5 of the 14 deceased users of tourism did not use the safety belt, 36% of the total, as well as the only deceased truck of up to 3,500 Kg. As for the use of the helmet, 1 of the 5 people who lost their lives on a motorcycle did not use it.
Regarding the Location of the accidents At the national level, Andalusia and Catalonia recorded the highest numbers of victims with 20% and 13% of the total respectively.
The Elders increases regarding 2024 they were in Navarre (+15) and the Canary Islands (+14). The Elders descents have been produced in Castilla y León (-19), Murcia and the Valencian Community (-16 respectively).
The 28 deaths in Asturias represent 2.5% of the 1,119 victims that occurred nationwide.
The figures presented are provisional and refer only to fatal accidents that occurred on interurban roads with victims registered up to 24 hours after the accident occurred. The final figures already consolidated, which will include the victims within 30 days of accidents occurring in urban and interurban roads, will allow us to have a complete X-ray of the road accident in Asturias and will be made public once they are available.
