El Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility It has approved the public information files and the preliminary projects and feasibility studies to build new service areas equipped with an ultra-fast charging station for electric vehicles. In particular, there will be eight service areas (five of them double, one in each margin), valued as a whole at approximately 94.5 million euros (VAT included).
These areas constitute the pilot program of the Ministry of Transport for the provision of this type of facilities in the State Road Network, which aims to contribute to the decarbonization of transport, catalyze private investment in electric charging infrastructures and improve the offer of services to the user.
The estimated construction budgets of the areas (first implementation), are as follows. All of them include VAT:
- A Caridá (right bank), in the province of Asturias, on the right bank of km 490 of the A-8 motorway.
- Penagos, in the province of Cantabria, on both margins of km 208.5 of the A-8 motorway.
- Calatayud, in the province of Zaragoza, on the left bank of km 234 of the A-2 motorway.
- Montoro, in the province of Córdoba, on both margins of km 353 of the A-4 motorway.
- Perales de Tajuña, in the province of Madrid, on the left bank of km 35 of the A-3 motorway.
- Saelices, in the province of Cuenca, on both margins of km 99 of the A-3 motorway.
- Algemesí, in the province of Valencia, on both margins of km 541 of the AP-7 motorway.
- La Roca del Vallés, in the province of Barcelona, on both margins of km 129 of the AP-7 motorway.
The preliminary projects and corresponding feasibility studies have been grouped into six dossiers (one for Perales de Tajuña and Penagos and another for La Roca del Vallès and La Caridad). The respective approvals are being published in the Official State Gazette. Specifically, the approval of the La Roca del Vallès area file was published in BOE on February 4: Announcement 3078 of BOE No. 31 of 2026.
After these approvals, the corresponding concession contract will be tendered (divided into six lots) and the respective construction projects of the service areas will be drawn up by the corresponding concession adjudicators. Once these projects are approved by the General Directorate of Roads, the construction and operation of each of the areas will continue.
