The Ministry of Culture, through the General Directorate of Books, Comics and Reading, organizes from September 11 to 13, the XL Meeting of Writers and Critics of Spanish Letters, which is held in the Casona de Verines (Asturias). Held in collaboration with the University of Salamanca, the conference is entitled ‘Forty years of creation and dialogue. In search of diversity: past and future of some encounters’.
The inauguration of the meetings, chaired by the general director of the Book, Comic and Reading of the Ministry of Culture, María José Gálvez, took place yesterday in La Librería de Pimiango (Ribadedeva Council, Asturias).
For three days, about twenty authors and literary critics will discuss different issues related to literary creation in the different languages of the State. Specifically, Luis García Jambrina, who exercises the academic coordination of the days, will participate in this edition, Antonio Álamo, Sebastià Alzamora, Bernardo Atxaga, Anna Ballbona, Carmen Camacho, Berta Dávila, Ana Galvañ, Jon Kortazar, Eduard Marco Escamilla, Xaime Martínez, Ricardo Menéndez Salmón, Ana Merino, Antonio Orejudo, Azahara Palomeque, Berta Toro, Noemgei Sabugo.
Four decades of encounters
The Meetings of Writers and Critics of Verines Letters have been held since 1985. Its objective is to promote intellectual exchange between writers of all the languages of the country and to discuss the state of Spanish letters in their different genres and from different perspectives.
Over the past 40 years, more than 500 Spanish, Latin American and European writers have participated in the meetings, including poets, novelists, playwrights, essayists, authors of children’s and youth literature, comic book authors, translators, critics, editors, illustrators, historians and journalists.
