The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has since this morning, Friday, April 28, 2023, put into service the Alcorisa Variant on the N-211 road, in the province of Teruel, after investing 45.13 million euros (VAT included) and thanks to which more than 3,000 vehicles are expected to stop transiting through the center of the population.
In addition, the users of the N-211 road will enjoy a saving of more than 6 minutes in their journeys by avoiding the passage through the municipality and greater comfort and safety by avoiding the intersections of the crossing with the streets of the municipality.
All this will serve to improve road safety and the well-being of its inhabitants, in addition to contributing to the exploitation of the citizens of the area, in turn favoring the use of sustainable means of transport, such as bicycles, and promoting healthier and more environmentally friendly lifestyles.
It is important to point out that the opening to traffic has been possible thanks to the provisional order of continuity of the works, authorized in September 2022 by the minister, Raquel Sánchez, included in the modified number two of these works and which has been recently approved by the Council of Ministers.
Next jobs
Once the works have been completed on the crossing, it is now planned to start the works already announced last year with the formalization of the integral conservation contract TE-03 and that will have an investment of 824,598 euros (VAT included) for the construction of a roundabout in the km 212,900 of the N-211, at its intersection with the roads A-223 and A-225, in order to improve road safety at this crossing and regulate the entry traffic to Alcorisa.
On the other hand, next year will be carried out the rehabilitation of the firm of the Alcorisa crossing, with the objective of a set-up for the new traffic configuration in the area, where long-distance traffic, especially heavy vehicles, will no longer circulate in it.
Alcorisa variant, technical characteristics
The Alcorisa Variant has a length of 6.8 km and is located on the N-211 road between its kilometers 208,400 and 214,500. It serves as a safer alternative to the crossing of this Turolean town, which makes it an ideal option both for long-distance transport and for the crossing, which becomes an urban route. In addition, it allows to reduce the travel times for the circulation on the N-211 by more than 6 minutes.
The cross-section of the variant is composed of a road with two lanes of 3.5 meters each and arches of 1.5 meters. The section has a project speed of 100 km/h, although due to the change in traffic regulations, the maximum speed is set at 90 km/h.
The start of the route is to the southwest of Alcorisa, km 208,400 from the N-211 road. From this point, the trunk of the variant borders the urban nucleus in the north, until it reconnects with the current national one in its km 214,500.
The variant has three links:
- The initial (west), is solved by a diamond typology with weights, allowing access to the urban core of Alcorisa and the TE-V-8215 road.
- The center link, at km 219,500, where the N-211 crosses over the autonomous road A-223, resolved by a lower roundabout that allows all movements.
- After this link, the variant crosses the river Guadalopillo through a viaduct and reaches the eastern semi-link, which allows vehicles coming from Calanda and Alcañiz, access to Alcorisa or those leaving Alcorisa to go to these two towns.
